This blog post is on request to explain the difference
between nasal- अनुस्वार (अं ) and semi nasal -अनुनासिक (अँ ).
To start with, अनुस्वार (अं ) is a varna/alphabet whereas अनुनासिक (अँ) is a semi nasal sound (matra/sound).
अनुस्वार (अं ) is taught to students when Swar (अ,आ,इ,ई.........अं,अ:) is introduced.
While teaching Hindi, we tell kids matra of अनुस्वार (अं ) is बिंदु (dot) while अनुनासिक (अँ) is चंद्रबिंदु (meaning moon dot in Sanskrit)
