Conjunct consonants (Sanyukt Vyanjan) (र - रेफ़/पदेन का प्रयोग) - 4

This is the fourth post on Conjunct consonants. Many subscribers requested this particular topic of संयुक्ताक्षर – र (रेफ़/पदेन)का प्रयोग, to be discussed in detail and wanted some worksheets for the practice.

In the case of conjunct consonants alphabet r/ has a different rule to follow.

(A)Whenever a half Vyanjan(स्वर रहित)- alphabets with a standing line( T ), is joined to r/, it is reduced in size, and a short-stroke is attached below the line of the vyanjan. It is known as पदेन meaning पैरों पर  लगा हुआ.

   e.g. –

क् + र क्र  -  क् + र + म   क्रम,

ग् + र ग्र  -  ग् + र + ह    - ग्रह

प् + र प्र  -   प् + र + बल  - प्रबल

ब् + र ब्र    -  ब् + र + ज    - ब्रज

when we pronounce these conjunct consonants the sound of r/ comes after the half Vyanjan (स्वर रहित).

(B)   as half vyanjan र् (स्वर रहित) is called रेफ़ in Hindi grammar.

र्  appears in between the alphabets of a word, and र् takes an upward curve form above the next Vyanjan. e.g. –

र् + म र्म -  + र् + कर्म

र् + च र्च –  + र् + - खर्च

र् + द र्द –  + र् + - सर्द

It is to be noted that no word starts with र् (रेफ़), it always appears in between the alphabets of a word.

(C)  With ट् (ta), ठ् (tha), ड् (da), ढ् (dha) छ् (cha),  appears as

(  ª below the Vyanjan. e.g. –

ट् + र ट्र - ट् + र + क ट्र

ड् + र ड्र, - ड् + र + म – ड्र

(D) Whenever a half Vyanjan (स्वर रहित) त् is joined to , it is reduced in size, and a short-stroke is attached to the vyanjan .

त् + त्र

त् + र + स – त्र

त् + रे + ता – त्रेता

मा + त् + रा - मात्रा

Conjunct Consonants (Sanyukt Vyanjan) may appear complex but with little practice and fun, kids can master it.

Number (वचन) ( 2) - Primary Classes 4,5,6

In the first post on Vachan(number) for classes 1,2,3 I’d only taken up the masculine gender(पुल्लिंग) words ending with the matra . It follows a simple rule, the matra is replaced by matra ए.

In this second post on Vachan (Number) I’ve taken up the other masculine/feminine gender words ending with different matras. Each worksheet has the rule written above the examples.

Read the rules carefully and completing the worksheets would be easy. In case of any queries feel free to get in touch.

Happy Teaching!!!

Number (वचन) (1) - Primary classes 1,2,3

In Hindi language Vachan (Number) is a grammatical term denoting number category of noun, pronoun –

Singular (एकवचन) is used when the noun refers to one object/person/place or thing.

Plural (बहुवचन) is used when a noun refers to more than one object/person/place or thing.

There are certain rules regarding the use of Vachan (Number). I have shared a worksheet with the details and other pictorial worksheets are categorized as per the different rules of changing a singular form to plural.

In this first post on Vachan(number) for classes 1,2,3 I’ve only taken up the masculine gender(पुल्लिंग) words ending with the matra ‘आ’. It follows a simple rule, the matra ‘आ’is replaced by matra ए.

eg. लड़का - लड़के ,   चूहा – चूहे,   बस्ता – बस्ते

Important to note that changing a noun word from singular form to plural in a sentence, the verb also changes to plural.

Eg. लड़का खेल रहा है।  -  लड़के खेल रहे हैं

Note – Many a time’s parents have argued over the use of है/हैं.

है – is         हैं – are

लड़का खेल रहा है।  - The boy is playing

लड़के खेल रहे हैं     -  The boys are playing.

Hope the worksheets are helpful for your kids. Kindly follow the blog and leave your comments in the comment box or connect via email.

Happy teaching!!!
