Conjunct consonants (Sanyukt Vyanjan) (र - रेफ़/पदेन का प्रयोग) - 4

This is the fourth post on Conjunct consonants. Many subscribers requested this particular topic of संयुक्ताक्षर – र (रेफ़/पदेन)का प्रयोग, to be discussed in detail and wanted some worksheets for the practice.

In the case of conjunct consonants alphabet r/ has a different rule to follow.

(A)Whenever a half Vyanjan(स्वर रहित)- alphabets with a standing line( T ), is joined to r/, it is reduced in size, and a short-stroke is attached below the line of the vyanjan. It is known as पदेन meaning पैरों पर  लगा हुआ.

   e.g. –

क् + र क्र  -  क् + र + म   क्रम,

ग् + र ग्र  -  ग् + र + ह    - ग्रह

प् + र प्र  -   प् + र + बल  - प्रबल

ब् + र ब्र    -  ब् + र + ज    - ब्रज

when we pronounce these conjunct consonants the sound of r/ comes after the half Vyanjan (स्वर रहित).

(B)   as half vyanjan र् (स्वर रहित) is called रेफ़ in Hindi grammar.

र्  appears in between the alphabets of a word, and र् takes an upward curve form above the next Vyanjan. e.g. –

र् + म र्म -  + र् + कर्म

र् + च र्च –  + र् + - खर्च

र् + द र्द –  + र् + - सर्द

It is to be noted that no word starts with र् (रेफ़), it always appears in between the alphabets of a word.

(C)  With ट् (ta), ठ् (tha), ड् (da), ढ् (dha) छ् (cha),  appears as

(  ª below the Vyanjan. e.g. –

ट् + र ट्र - ट् + र + क ट्र

ड् + र ड्र, - ड् + र + म – ड्र

(D) Whenever a half Vyanjan (स्वर रहित) त् is joined to , it is reduced in size, and a short-stroke is attached to the vyanjan .

त् + त्र

त् + र + स – त्र

त् + रे + ता – त्रेता

मा + त् + रा - मात्रा

Conjunct Consonants (Sanyukt Vyanjan) may appear complex but with little practice and fun, kids can master it.

Number (वचन) ( 2) - Primary Classes 4,5,6

In the first post on Vachan(number) for classes 1,2,3 I’d only taken up the masculine gender(पुल्लिंग) words ending with the matra . It follows a simple rule, the matra is replaced by matra ए.

In this second post on Vachan (Number) I’ve taken up the other masculine/feminine gender words ending with different matras. Each worksheet has the rule written above the examples.

Read the rules carefully and completing the worksheets would be easy. In case of any queries feel free to get in touch.

Happy Teaching!!!

Number (वचन) (1) - Primary classes 1,2,3

In Hindi language Vachan (Number) is a grammatical term denoting number category of noun, pronoun –

Singular (एकवचन) is used when the noun refers to one object/person/place or thing.

Plural (बहुवचन) is used when a noun refers to more than one object/person/place or thing.

There are certain rules regarding the use of Vachan (Number). I have shared a worksheet with the details and other pictorial worksheets are categorized as per the different rules of changing a singular form to plural.

In this first post on Vachan(number) for classes 1,2,3 I’ve only taken up the masculine gender(पुल्लिंग) words ending with the matra ‘आ’. It follows a simple rule, the matra ‘आ’is replaced by matra ए.

eg. लड़का - लड़के ,   चूहा – चूहे,   बस्ता – बस्ते

Important to note that changing a noun word from singular form to plural in a sentence, the verb also changes to plural.

Eg. लड़का खेल रहा है।  -  लड़के खेल रहे हैं

Note – Many a time’s parents have argued over the use of है/हैं.

है – is         हैं – are

लड़का खेल रहा है।  - The boy is playing

लड़के खेल रहे हैं     -  The boys are playing.

Hope the worksheets are helpful for your kids. Kindly follow the blog and leave your comments in the comment box or connect via email.

Happy teaching!!!

Gender - Primary classes 1,2,3

Before we introduce the grammatical term, gender ( लिंग) it is important to point it out to the kids that-

· Every object, person, place, expression, state, thing – animate or inanimate has a name. It's grammatical term is  noun.

· Every noun is assigned to two grammatical genders, masculine – पुल्लिंग and feminine – स्त्रीलिंग. Unlike Sanskrit, there is no neuter gender – नपुंसकलिंग in the Hindi  language

·   At this stage give some examples of common objects in sentence form –

लड़का बैठा है। ( पु.)

    किताब फट गई। (स्त्री.)

    गिलास गिर गया। (पु.)

·    Point it out to them that they have already been using the terms पुल्लिंग/ स्त्रीलिंग informally.

·    When we ask them to identify an object as to their gender – पुल्लिंग/ स्त्रीलिंग, encourage them to form a simple sentence so they can easily identify its gender.

·      It is important to point it out to them that in a sentence, words related to the noun like determiners, pronouns, adjectives, verbs change their form according to the gender of the noun they refer to. e.g.-

     छाता हवा में उड़ गया। ( पु.)

             छतरी हवा में उड़ गई। (स्त्री.)

At the early level of primary classes, it is important they identify, pronounce and learn the spelling of  पुल्लिंग/ स्त्रीलिंग. I am uploading pictorial worksheets and hope they are helpful to parents and fellow teachers.

Fun with words 3 - Primary school

Fun with words is aimed to make learning fun. Group activities with something different from normal classroom teaching always interest kids a lot. They tend to absorb and remember whatever they learn in these fun-filled activities.

I have always observed that small kids are very inquisitive, observant and eager to learn. They are always ready with probing questions. It’s just how we handle their queries and satisfy their curiosity. It needs great patience.

Funs with words worksheets were just an afterthought to test their skills and observation. They would certainly try their hand in creating more new words and enjoy it. Summer holidays are here so let them enjoy these fun activities along with holiday homework.

Enjoy these worksheets along with little ones. A lot more fun with words worksheets to follow in future. Till then Happy teaching !!!!!
